Youth Project Worker

Hours: Part Time (24 hours per week, Monday to Friday including evenings. Can be flexible - hours to be agreed)

Salary: £19,370 pro rata

Introduction/Main Functions of Post

The Ayr Ark is a youth project which seeks to engage with young people through events, outreach and mentoring to equip young people with relevant skills and training and empower them to reach for a more positive future.

 

We are looking for a passionate, energetic, and confident individual to join our small, dynamic team. You will engage and build quality relationships with young people, volunteers, and partners and as an effective communicator and collaborator, you will thrive in both team and independent work. You will actively engage with young people on a one-to-one basis and provide high-quality support for the young people attending the Ark. You will be expected to engage in challenges with optimism and resilience and be adaptive and flexible – embracing change and innovation.

There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) that the post-holder is a Christian and has an active church connection. The successful applicant will be required to be/become a member of the PVG scheme.

Job Activities/Duties of Post

  • Delivering one-to-one mentoring by supporting young people whose personal circumstances are significantly affecting their education, mental health, or wellbeing

  • Undertake needs analysis with young people, create action plans, provide support and make referrals to services as appropriate.

  • Demonstrable ability to build effective, meaningful, and trusting relationships with young people, empowering them and providing tailored guidance

  • Help young people in understanding the risks associated with harmful behaviours which are prevalent amongst young people today such as alcohol and drug awareness and mental health problems.

  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the young people

  • Encourage and promote Christian values and uphold and represent the ethos of The Ark in all communication with young people.

  • Delivering presentations to young people to inform of prevalent risk such as online safety

  • Be willing to undertake relevant and regular training for professional development.

  • To develop and maintain positive professional relationships with other Ark staff, management Board Members.

  • To understand the importance of confidentiality when completing reports for monitoring and evaluation purposes.

  • To have an understanding of funding and to assist with the funding application process and performance reports.

  • Active in the identification and encouragement of volunteers, as a critical resource in The Ark.

  • Support the organisation of our regular diversionary events and activities for young people.

  • Assist with the running of our mid-week and evening events within and out with The Ark.

  • Assume responsibility when necessary for managing diversionary events staged within The Ark, as well as assisting and supporting the rest of the team.
